Baby come back: the rise of 'returnships' to combat the female brain drain [UK]

They're the lost women of the workplace. The ones who take time out in their twenties, thirties and forties, usually to have children and never quite make it back...Women wanting to get back into the game are often held back because employers see a candidate with a gaping hole on the CV as a big risk. They may also have missed out on major developments in the industry...However, a growing number of US firms believe they have found the solution: returnships. These schemes offer the chance to re-enter the office...with the possibility of a job at the end of it...[T]he idea has crossed the Atlantic...Credit Suisse launched a pilot scheme in London, with 16 women taking part in a 10-week “Real Returns” course. They have all taken between two and 10 years out of the industry and will receive “professional-level pay”...Morgan Stanley will soon...launch...a similar scheme...The idea of a “returnship”...belongs to Goldman Sachs, which first launched a scheme in the US...in 2008
