BMW recognised as climate change champion

BMW and four other large auto companies have been named climate change champions in one of the most closely watched rankings of how businesses are tackling their greenhouse gas emissions...[E]ven though more large businesses are disclosing their emissions data than before, there is little evidence the ones producing the most carbon dioxide...are doing much to curb their emissions...Fifty of the 500 companies analysed – mostly from the energy, utilities and materials industries – account for nearly three-quarters of the group’s total carbon emissions. Their emissions have risen nearly 2 per cent in the past four years, the CDP data show...The study reveals big differences in the environmental performances of different businesses. In the energy sector, utilities assessed in the report reduced their average emissions by 10 per cent in the past year and all have a publicly stated emissions reduction target.
