BP agrees to settle with 4 victims of 2005 refinery explosion [USA]

BP agreed to settle claims by four victims of an explosion at its Texas refinery, ending the first trial over the March 2005 disaster…. BP…has reached agreements on more than 1,500 claims over the explosion at its Texas City refinery, which killed 15 people and injured hundreds. The company…is settling lawsuits from a $1.6 billion fund set aside for that purpose…. A BP spokesman, Neil Chapman, said the company "worked very hard to settle cases right from the very beginning so people don't have to go to court." Judge Susan Criss...said...that at least 1,200 [cases] were pending.
