The management of Newmont Ghana became aware of an incident in the Yamfo community located in the northern section of its mining lease on November 27, 2006. The incident involved the apparent detainment, questioning and eventual arrest by the police of some members of WACAM and an official of OXFAM America non-governmental organizations who were engaged in discussions regarding future mining activities in the area... Newmont expresses concern and confusion regarding these developments... Newmont remains committed to providing access to information on all aspects of its operations and building understanding in the communities about mining as a process.
