Egypt: Habi Center welcomes initial response from Environmental Affairs Agency to request regarding use of coal

Publication date: 20 May 2016

On Wednesday, 17th May 2016, Habi Center for Environmental Rights received the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency's response to the demands sent before to the Cabinet, Ministry of Environment and Environmental Affairs Agency regarding use of coal by cement companies without publicizing environmental impact assessment studies and minutes of hearing sessions of these studies (for reading the demands please see http://www.hcer.org/?p=1310).

The response reflects the Environmental Affairs Agency's interest in the demands that Habi sent and promises to take these demands into consideration and study them technically and legally and feed Habi back with their final opinion in regard to the demands.

Habi Center for Environmental Rights sees this matter as a good and positive step by the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency. Accordingly, Habi Center replied to this letter thanking the Environmental Affairs Agency and asking them to inform the center with the date when they will reply them regarding the previously mentioned demands. In addition, Habi asks the agency to immediately announce the companies that actually started using coal.
