France’s gender evolution

[In France,] [n]o women currently head any of the CAC 40, the country’s 40 biggest companies...This is despite...a law passed in 2011...which required big companies based in France to fill 20 per cent of board seats with women by 2014, and 40 per cent by 2017...[t]hat has led to a rush of appointments of female directors, usually non-executive, some of whom have been derided as tokenism...France nevertheless beat the OECD average on the share of women who are senior managers, even if they are not in the very top executive-level positions...[Delphine Ernotte-Cunci, deputy chief executive of France Telecom] believes that an executive committee that features women alongside men, as well as people from other countries or different educational backgrounds, is more effective, but notes: “I don’t think in France that we really believe in that yet.” [Also refers to Alcatel-Lucent, Areva, Accor, Axa Private Equity, Orange France, L'Oréal]
