G4S faces damages claim over killing of Jimmy Mubenga [UK]

The family of an Angolan man who died after being restrained by three G4S guards has launched civil proceedings…after an inquest jury found that he had been unlawfully killed on a plane intended to deport him. Jimmy Mubenga…was judged…to have been killed…after he was forcibly restrained for more than half an hour…[T]he…foreman…said: “…We find that they were using unreasonable force and acting in an unlawful manner…”…A G4S spokesman said…the company believed it had acted "appropriately and in full compliance with the terms of our contract with UKBA…"…[and]…that it was "not appropriate" to…comment "on behalf of our former employees"…The Home Office contract is now run by Tascor…and…[o]ne [guard]…said…detainees had been…assaulted by guards on a recent…flight...A spokesman for Tascor said it could not comment on anonymous claims…
