Following the intense media and public interest that the allegation of harassment with respect to pregnant women has generated, Management of Newmont Ghana Gold (NGGL), has assured that it has in place a gender-mainstreaming program aimed at women empowerment on the mine and within its host communities. This was contained in a press statement issued in reaction to recent media reports on the allegation of phasing out female staff at the Mine Department due to the rate at which they were becoming pregnant.
