'Revealed: Ghana omitting human rights abuse in extractive sector from UN report', 23 Sep 2015:…18 civil society…organizations…have called on the government of Ghana to include human right violations in the extractive sector in the Ghana’s human right report to the United Nations…Ghana is a signatory to the United Nations Universal Periodic Report…which requires Ghana...every four years [to] report the Human Right situation in the country…[O]rganizations…noted that since…2008, Ghana has consistently excluded infringements on human rights…in the extractive sector…[which] is against the principles and rationale…[of] human right report[ing] and if…[un]checked will lead to violations…on a large scale…[ Dr. Manteaw of the Integrated Social Development Center] said, “in…2005…Ghana’s report did not capture the brutalities by the military who opened fire on demonstrators…wound[ing]…7 people in Prestea…The report…also [failed to] capture the police…response to the demonstration [of farmers against Newmont]...which killed two persons…[Al]though these incidents were properly documented, Ghana’s report…did not capture even one of them”…[P]articipants of the workshop…[are calling for] wider consultation on what goes into the report”…
