…[T]he air was most polluted in cities of the East and Central regions…In some cities pollution with formaldehyde is five times higher...than allowed, nitrogen dioxide and dust at least 2 times higher...The sources of the pollutant were production of construction material, metallurgy, thermal power engineering, chemical industry and vehicle fumes…During 2007…1.4 billion cubic metres of polluted drainage water was dumped into reservoirs without any purification at all…Water areas are contaminated…The list of the ten worst polluters of the environment in 2008 still contains the following enterprises: «Zaporizhstal»; the Burshtyn Thermal Electric Power Station «Zakhidenergo»…the Dniprovsky Metallurgic Complex named after Dzherzhynsky…«ArcelorMittal Kryvy Rih»; the Thermal Electric Power Station»Dniproenergo»…Illich Metallurgic Industrial Complex…Azovstal…Starobeshevska Thermal Electric Power Station; Donbasenergo; the Alchevsky Metallurgic Industrial Complex; Lysychansk Soda.
