An explosion in a mine in Satpayev town of Karaganda Oblast in central Kazakhstan has claimed the life of a young miner, Tengrinews reports. The explosion occurred…in South Zhezkazgan mine of KAZ Minerals company (former Kazakhmys) at the depth of 140 meters. A 23-year-old miner died at the spot and another 45-year-old worker was hospitalized with various injuries...A criminal case was opened under the Article 246 of the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan - Violation of the safety rules at explosion-hazardous facilities or in explosion-hazardous workshops resulting in the death of a person or other serious consequences. A special commission was formed to investigate the accident. The preliminary cause so far is a spontaneous detonation of explosives that the miners were planting in the mine for blasting.
