National NGO monitoring of the Azeri section of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline project [Azerbaijan]

The main purpose of the monitoring was to study the impacts of construction on human rights in communities located along the route of the BTC pipeline. Furthermore, the monitoring aimed to evaluate the fulfilment of the human rights obligations undertaken by BP/BTC. The monitoring was conducted over a period of four months with the following objectives: - To study impacts on ownership rights in communities residing along the route of the BTC pipeline - To investigate project-related rights and problems of communities residing along the route of the BTC pipeline; to study the process of compensation disbursement to landowners and land users during pipeline construction - To investigate the rights of workers recruited for pipeline construction; to study labour safety issues
