New Sustainable Natural Rubber Initiative draft - concerns & feedback

The Sustainable Natural Rubber Initiative (SNR-i)  has been developed by the International Rubber Study Group (IRSG) as a voluntary and collaborative industry project to ensure that the rubber industry can build on its best practices, and demonstrate and communicate throughout the natural rubber value chain.

Global Witness has raised some concerns about the standards set out in the SNR-i’s draft policy - saying it contains worrying holes and anomalies and that it falls short of industry-led standards for comparable commodities like timber and palm oil.

We invited the IRSG to provide additional information, and the group sent us the following statement:

The SNR  initiative is in its pilot phase and feedback from various stakeholders on the SNR-i are part of the ongoing discussions within the Working Group on the SNR-i. We have scheduled dialogue with Social and Environmental NGOs and other stakeholders for further discussions and feedback.
