New York Times/Frontline Series on Gold Mining

In keeping with our commitment to and practice of transparent and open communication, Newmont has engaged with journalists on both stories, opening our doors at our mining operations in the US, Ghana and Peru. We made the decision to cooperate with the New York Times and Frontline in an effort to demonstrate our focus on safe and sustainable mining, show support for communities where we operate, highlight our environmental protection practices and address the often negative stereotypes presented of the mining industry. Despite our engagement and cooperation, we believe that these stories will be presented in a manner that will cast Newmont and the gold mining industry in a very negative light. Recognizing that some of the possible subjects addressed in the stories may raise questions in your mind, we would like to share some relevant facts with you about some of the assertions that may be put forth.
