NGOs invite Latin American candidates to UN Working Group to answer business & human rights questions, address role of group

Centro de Estudios Legales y Sociales – CELS, Conectas Direitos Humanos and Dejusticia invited the three Latin American finalist candidates for the Working Group on the issue of human rights and transnational corporations and other business enterprises (“UNWG”)  to respond to to respond to four questions on their views on the mandate and about business and human rights issues. The Human Rights Council will appoint a new member to the UN Working Group (UNWG) in the its 28th Session. The aim of the open letter sent to the candidates was to “broaden the public debate about the process of appointing the new member, and with a view to ensuring that the future mandate-holder will be fully committed to ending corporate-related human rights abuses and demonstrate the highest adherence to the duties set forth in the resolutions governing the mandate of the UNWG”. The deadline to send the response is Monday, 16 March 2015.
