Nigeria: Oil Spill - Senate Gives Ultimatum to Shell, NNPC

The Senate yesterday handed down a seven-day deadline to Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and other relevant multi-national corporations to rectify faulty oil pumps and stop spills in the Niger Delta...Also yesterday, SPDC disagreed with the Ikot Ada Udo community of Akwa Ibom state over the latter's N5 billion demand from the oil giant as compensation over the oil spill...last year...The Senate resolved to: "Condemn unequivocally...Shell...for its dastard act of neglect of the Ikot Ado Udo Oil Spillage in Akwa-Ibom for three months, leading to loss of livelihood..."
