Nigerian president urged to implement extractives transparency reports to turn resource curse into blessing

'EITI urges Buhari to run with NEITI report', 18 Jun 2015: The International Chair of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), Clare Short, has called on [Nigerian] President Mohammadu Buhari to dust off…reports of the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) and drive…much needed reforms in the oil and gas industry…She said: “we think that some of the issues we flagged off in the various NEITI reports and the analysis we have done can culminate into policies that will help the government achieve its objectives of reforming the oil and gas sector…[P]ast implementation has been weak and we think the new administration should turn the rich oil and gas into a blessing instead of a curse...” President Buhari is said to have promised to take up the issues of the implementation of the recommendation of NEITI’s audit reports as one of the priority areas of his administration…
