OSHA [US Occupational Safety & Health Administration] slams BP with record $21 million fine

Federal regulators on Thursday fined BP a record $21.3 million and charged the company with 300 health and safety violations in the March explosion at its Texas City refinery that killed 15 people. The penalties came in the form of a settlement with the petroleum giant, angering union officials who said the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's secret negotiations with the company left the public in the dark about the full scope of its investigation into the troubled plant...BP officials said in a prepared statement that the company "does not admit the alleged violations." Nonetheless, it has agreed to pay the fine and take numerous corrective actions, many of which are already being implemented, the company said.
