Peru: United Cacao rejects land grabbing and deforestation allegations made by indigenous peoples, NGOs

“United Cacao bites back over illicit activity claims”

…United Cacao and its subsidiary Cacao del Peru Norte SAC have been under fire recently over alleged cases of illegal deforestation, United Cacao states on its website that its goal is to produce ethically produced cocao however, recent demands made by indigenous and nongovernmental organizations suggest this is isn’t so…Indigenous and nongovernmental organizations have sent letters to the London Stock Exchange (LSE) and UK market regulators hoping to remove them from trading. United Cacao hit back stating that is has done run and has been operating in accordance to the law, in a report released by United Cocao it states the following: “The Company operates in full compliance with all applicable Peruvian and environmental laws relating to planning, land use, development, operation and plantation standard, It operates on freehold land zoned for agricultural purposes by the relevant government authorities of Loreto, Peru.”…[The complete company statement is here]
