Petrobras faces charges over sea pollution [Brazil]

Petrobras, Brazil’s state-controlled oil company, is set to face criminal charges as early as next week for allegedly polluting the waters off the coast of Rio de Janeiro as the country’s authorities take a tougher stance toward the industry. Renato Machado, a federal prosecutor in Rio, said he planned to file the case after investigations dating back to August 2011 showed Petrobras had deliberately dumped petroleum products into the sea from its Duque de Caxias refinery…Petrobras denied the allegations, saying that it has carried out daily tests at its platforms which show it has complied with the law… [It refers to Chevron and Transocean]
