RAID & Human Rights Law Centre bring OECD complaint against G4S over treatment of asylum seekers detained in Australian offshore processing centre
In September 2014 Rights and Accountability in Development (RAID) and the Human Rights Law Centre lodged an OECD complaint with the UK National Contact Point against security company G4S. The complaint accuses G4S of failing to meet international standards and committing serious human rights abuses against asylum seekers held at the off shore Australian processing centre on Manus Island, Papua New Guinea where G4S was contracted by the Australian Government to oversee management and security. The complaint refers in particular to an incident in February 2014, where one detainee was killed and more than 60 others were injured in an outbreak of violence. We invited G4S to respond to the allegations. Its response is below.
