This report presents the findings of a one day workshop held on May 16, 2014 co-hosted by the UN Global Compact (UNGC) and the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM). The workshop provided an overview of current policies and practice relating to Indigenous Peoples and mining and metals operations and explored some of the challenges and opportunities around implementation…The workshop provided a multi-stakeholder platform with a view to: introducing participants to ICMM’s policy commitments relating to Indigenous Peoples and mining and the UNGC’s Business Reference Guide to the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples; sharing perspectives and exploring challenges around implementing Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC)…generating input and ideas for the ongoing development of ICMM policies…[Also refers to AES, Kennecott Minerals (part of Rio Tinto), Newmont, Rio Tinto]
