One of the students who was injured during a protest action [by students] at the North West Mahikeng campus, has confirmed that doctors at the provincial hospital have removed a bullet shell from her leg...Tsholofelo Masinga, a second year Education student...was caught in the crossfire by a stray bullet. She has now opened an attempted murder case against the security company at the university. Some of the students claim that live ammunition was used by security guards during the protest...[and]...[s]cores...were injured; two sustained gun shots wounds... Police say they are investigating several cases, including the attempted murder one...University spokesperson, Koos Deegenar, declined to comment on the allegation that live ammunition was used.
