T-Mobile USA Violates Workers’ Rights, Union Representatives Say

[L]abor leaders filed a complaint with the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development to push the German phone company’s T-Mobile USA unit to respect workers’ rights. The…[unions] contend that T-Mobile violates international guidelines by deterring U.S. workers from forming works councils and unions…“Deutsche Telekom operates as a bully in the U.S. and other countries, and it creates a climate of fear for those who advocate or wish to join a union,” Sharan Burrow, general secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation, said…Allegations that T-Mobile’s management is hostile to labor organizing are “baseless,” and the mobile-phone operator is prepared to accept unions if they are wanted by a sufficient number of employees at a given location, Christian Schwolow, a Deutsche Telekom spokesman, said…The company will be able to refute the complaints in talks with the OECD, he said...The unions also complained that Deutsche Telekom’s business in...Montenegro didn’t recognize workers’ rights to negotiate wages.
