Tanzania: Govt. agency says farmers not to be compensated for crops destroyed to pave way for water project

"Mwanza farmers warned Sh11bn project will not cover crop damages"

The water authority has warned residents in Misungwi district that they will not be compensated for damaged crops  during the implementation of a water project worth  Sh11.5 billion. Stanley William, the chief engineer for Mwanza Urban Water Supply and Sewage Authority (MWAUWASA), said  Mwauwasa will supervise construction of the project through which three water pumps are expected to be installed with a capacity of pumping 3,000 litres of water into and a water treating reservoir.

He said that construction of the water project is set to begin next July under joint efforts by the East Africa Community and the Un-Habitat...The water project will be financed by the European Investment Bank and the French Development Agency (AFD)
