The SADC's mining curse [Africa]

Ineffective monitoring of mining operations, policy implementation and environmental factors have rendered mining a curse for the South African Development Community (SADC) region, according to the Bench Marks Foundation. Bench Marks, which monitors performance in the corporate social responsibility field, highlighted the threat of acid mine drainage, and the impact of mine closures and completions on the water system...The Bench Marks Foundation also found that corporations, particularly those involved in mining, still had a long way to go before they could be considered good corporate citizens.
