UN takes action on human rights and business

A new international effort attempts to address what the Office of the High Commissioner of Human Rights (OHCHR) calls “the gap in understanding what the international community expects of business when it comes to human rights”...the UN Norms on the Responsibilities of Transnational Corporations and Other Business Enterprises with Regard to Human Rights (UN Norms)...This spring, the UN Commission on Human Rights met to consider the UN Norms and the report that it requested from the OHCHR...On April 19, the Commission adopted a resolution requesting the UN Secretary General to appoint a Special Representative on the issue of human rights, transnational corporations and other business enterprises.
