China: Over 1000 workers strike over compensation owed following factory closure; incl. co. non-response

In January 2024, it was reported that over 1000 workers at Yangzhou Baoyi shoe factory went on strike over the factory's closure, demanding a calculation of the economic compensation owed to workers according to the law. Workers reported that shoe orders were moving to Indonesia, and that there was nothing they could do to keep the factory open. China Labour Bulletin found that the Baoyi factory violated several provisions of China’s labour laws, including non-payment of social security and provident housing fund.

In March 2024, Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Nike to respond. They did not.
