USA: CIW calls on delivery companies to drop Wendy's until it joins the Fair Food Program; incl. company response

The Coalition of Immokalee Workers, Alliance for Fair Food, and Student/Farmworker Alliance's "Deliver with Dignity" Campaign calls on Uber Eats, DoorDash, Grubhub and Postmates to support farmworkers' human rights and drop Wendy’s from their list of delivery options until it joins the Fair Food Program.

After nearly two decades of organizing with farmworkers and consumers across the United States, the CIW established the Fair Food Program (FFP) in 2011 to ensure humane wages and safe working conditions for farmworkers and eradicate gender-based violence. To date, 14 food retail companies, including Yum Brands, McDonald’s, Burger King, Subway, Whole Foods and Walmart, have joined the Fair Food Program. Wendy's is the only major fast food chain in the US that has not yet joined the program.

In 2016, the CIW launched a national boycott of Wendy’s, calling on the company to join the Fair Food Program. As part of the Deliver with Dignity Campaign, campaign organisers are urging Uber Eats, DoorDash, Grubhub and Postmates to join the Wendy's Boycott until Wendy's joins the Fair Food Program. As each of these delivery companies affirmed their responsibility to speak up and take action against injustice, inequality and discrimination earlier this year, campaign organisers believe this must include supporting the rights of the mostly Brown, Indigenous, and Black farmworkers that make it possible for restaurants to produce food in the United States.

The Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Wendy's, Uber Eats, DoorDash, Grubhub, and Postmates to respond. Only Wendy's responded and the Coalition of Immokalee Workers submitted a rejoinder to Wendy's response; both are available below.
