Myanmar: Groups call on more companies allegedly linked to military to sever ties

إظهار جميع الإشارات

Burma Campaign UK, Justice For Myanmar, Korean Civil Society in Solidarity with the Rohingya (KCSSR) and Korean Transnational Corporations Watch (KTCW) call on businesses that have commercial relationships with the Myanmar military to cut their ties.

Burma Campaign UK welcomes the announcement from Kirin that they will end their business relationship with the Myanmar military but continues on pressing other international companies doing business with the military to end those relationships.

Justice For Myanmar presses further by calling out the international community to impose immediate comprehensive and targeted sanctions against the Myanmar military in response to their Feb 1 attempted coup and their continuing violations of international law, including their campaign of genocide against the Rohingya and war crimes and crimes against humanity in ethnic regions.

KCSSR and KTCW filed complaints with the United Nations and South Korea’s rights watchdog against five companies based in South Korea, claiming that such companies have helped fund genocide and other atrocity crimes committed by the Myanmar military.

Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited 18 of the companies mentioned in the articles to respond. Adani Group, Chevron, Cloudflare, Daesun Shipbuilding & Engineering, Infosys, KDDI, Posco, Sumitomo Corporation, and Total responded. Hindustan Aeronautics, Hindustan Shipyard, Inno Group, Larsen & Toubro, LOTTE Hotels and Resorts, NORINCO, Pan-Pacific, Tata Group, TPG Capital, and Viettel did not respond. Facebook was invited to respond on the same allegations here but did not respond.

In February 2021, International Campaign for the Rohingya and Burma Campaign UK called on Cloudflare to terminate services for the Myanmar military. Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Cloudflare to respond; the company's response is available below. International Campaign for the Rohingya and Burma Campaign UK then sent a rejoinder to Cloudflare's response, which is also available below.
