On 11 November 2023, Jalal Uddin, a 42-year old supervisor at Islam Garments, and machine operator Anjuara Khatun were killed in Gazipur, Bangladesh during protests by factory workers advocating for a higher increase in the minimum wage. Jalal died after succumbing to injuries from stray bullets during an altercation between demonstrators and police and Anjuara was killed after police reportedly opened fire at a group of protestors.

On 9 November, police arrested human rights defender and trade unionist Mohammad Jewel Miya and at least 5 other grassroots unionists during protests by garment factory workers in the city of Gazipur protesting against the government-offered pay raise, which workers regarded as insufficient. Police also fired rubber bullets and tear gas at protesters.
