Bangladesh: Garment workers' rights bodies hold rallies & processions to mark the tenth anniversary of the Rana Plaza collapse

The 10th anniversary of Rana Plaza collapse was observed...amid demands for compensation of the victims and punishment for the building owners.
Different rights bodies for garment workers made the demands at a rally held near the temporary monument built at Savar Bus Stand to mark the day that witnessed the crashing down of the building that killed over 1,100 garment workers.
Leaders of different garment workers’ rights bodies placed wreath on the monument.
Bangladesh Garment SramikSamhati held a rally in front of the monument chaired by its president TaslimaAkhter.
‘It is unfortunate that many wounded workers have yet to get compensation,’ she said.
The leaders demanded speedy disposal of the cases filed in connection with the building collapse and exemplary punishment of the building owners.
National Garment Workers Federation also held a rally at the venue where its president Amirul Haque Amin chaired.
Garment Workers Trade Union Centre, Samajtantrik Sramik Front, and Garment Sramik Odhikar Andolan, a combine of garment workers’ rights bodies, and others also held rallies and processions in the area.
Moreover, different labour rights bodies placed wreaths on the graves of unidentified workers buried in Jurain graveyard in Dhaka.
Labour leaders Chowdhury Asiqul Alam, Montu Ghosh, Razequzzaman Ratan and others spoke at the rally held in Jurain.
The leaders also demanded to increase the minimum wage for garment workers by Tk 25,000 per month and more compensation for the victims...
