Cambodia: Govt. committed to step up the fight to combat human trafficking

"Cambodia steps up war against human trafficking", 21 October 2024

A march against human trafficking in Siem Reap drew the participation of more than 1,000 people ... Titled “Walk for Freedom from Human Trafficking 2024,” the event was organised by the Siem Reap Provincial Committee for Combating Human Trafficking in collaboration with the Siem Reap provincial authority.

The march was conducted in collaboration with A21 Cambodia, an NGO, and was presided over by Chou Bun Eng, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Interior and Permanent Vice-Chairwoman of the National Committee for Counter Trafficking (NCCT).

Speaking about the objective of the march, Bun Eng said that Cambodia is not backing down in its offensive against human trafficking. The Kingdom has launched the campaign across the country.

Underlining Cambodia’s commitment to fighting human trafficking and protection of victims, she said, “This is the third year of the campaign which has united diverse communities. The march is an expression of hope and resilience in the promotion of a united stand against a pressing global matters.”

… Kristen Scharf, A21 Cambodia Country Manager, highlighted the fact that human trafficking affects all nations irrespective of geographical boundaries. Today is not just an event, it is a declaration and a clear statement to the nation and the world that Cambodia continues to unite against human trafficking, she said.

… The National Strategic Plan for Combating Human Trafficking (2024-2028) is a road map and a reference document for all ministries and institutions that are members of the National Committee for Counter Trafficking (NCCT) at the national and sub-national levels.
