Daikin status update re Kawaguchi workers: 20 December 2024
...
Under Daikin Group Human Rights Policy, Daikin is committed to fulfilling its responsibility to respect human rights in accordance with international norms such as the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises.
Based on such commitment, we actively participated in direct dialogue with our stakeholders, including migrant workers as rights holders. Through the course of the dialogue, we have learned the importance of an adequate, effective, and prompt remedy being provided in this case...
In particular, based on our dialogue with the relevant stakeholder, we have serious concerns that the agreement reached during the mediation does not cover the remedy for the recruitment fees, which should have been incurred by the employer but was actually incurred by the workers in this case.
Given the unique and exceptional background of this particular case, we believe that the repayment of recruitment fees should be jointly supported by the relevant stakeholders to the extent possible. We intend to determine the specific amount as soon as possible through dialogue with relevant stakeholders.
