…I am working at Wi Ye Garment Factory, Thar Du Kan Industrial Zone, Shwe Pyi Thar Township…The brand we are doing now is “Calliope”. Up until now, there is no EC contract at our factory. They said that there will be an EC contract for us when our working experience is six months over. They said that those who have at least six months of working experience are entitled to get the benefits in respect of the EC contract. Therefore, they can dismiss any employee who does not have six months of working experience as they wish…

During the working hours (all-night duty), the dinner has to be arranged by the factory. They served pickled tea rice for dinner. But it is not sufficient for the employees…[the management] said, “will you have dinner or [take] Ks. 1200?” It means that when we take the money, we will not be able to have dinner. We are feeling hungry because we have to work the whole day…

When the light [gets turned off] around 2:00am, they [make] us sleep. When we try to sleep, it is not convenient. There are a lot of mosquitos that bite us. And the workplace is stuffy and air ventilation is not very good. We are not allowed to go back home ourselves. As all the doors are locked, there is no exit for us.

In the early morning, some employees went back at 4:00am and some did at 5:00am. Those [workers face] reduced…bonus[es].

[There is] only one room for males and two rooms for females. But there are three hundred female employees. So it is inconvenient for us. We have to line up in front of the toilet for about five or ten minutes…When we are on [overtime] duty, occasionally, there is a shortage of water at the toilet…

There are more than three hundred employees at the factory, but there are about five or six drinking water pots...we do not have the right to drink water and go to the toilet within the period (8:00am to 10:00am). If I take a day off as being sick I will be reduced from [pay grade] A+ to C.

Nowadays the prices are so high we can’t afford to survive. Our salaries are not risen.
