Nestlé’s response

"Nestlé’s position on the situation in Myanmar, as of 18.03.2021", 18 March 2021

We are deeply concerned about the situation in Myanmar.

The safety and security of our employees and those employed by our suppliers is our highest priority. We are taking the necessary precautionary measures to protect their physical and mental well-being, in line with the evolving situation.

The rule of law, respect for human rights and the unrestricted flow of information are key elements of a stable business environment. We have reaffirmed the importance of these as a signatory, along with many other companies, to a statement facilitated by the Myanmar Center for Responsible Business in February 2021.

Our values and principles – including our commitment to respect and protect human rights in our business activities – are codified in our Corporate Business Principles and apply everywhere we operate. In 2015, we conducted a comprehensive human rights impact assessment in Myanmar that helped us further enhance our responsible business practices in the country and we continue to apply the learnings today.

We work hand in hand with local business partners who share the same approach.

We maintain our commitment to the people of Myanmar by ensuring they have access to high-quality nutritious products at an affordable price. We have operated in the country for 30 years and supported the country’s socio–economic development by providing training and employment opportunities for our young workforce, which has an average age of 29.
