Rosprirodnadzor to collect 6 million rubles from the Achinsk RUSAL plant for environmental damage, 17 July 2023

Yenisei interregional department of Rosprirodnadzor filed a claim with the arbitration court against JSC Rusal Achinsk Alumina Refinery (Rusal Achinsk). The department demands to recover 5.9 million rubles from the company for damage caused to air.

The lawsuit, cited by the press service of the Arbitration Court of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, says that in April 2021, the Rosprirodnadzor department identified violations of soot emissions at the enterprise’s facilities. The company was brought to administrative liability under Part 2 of Art. 8.21 Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation.

In May 2022, the management sent a demand to Rusal Achinsk for voluntary compensation for damage caused to air, estimating it at 5.9 million rubles. “To date, the company has not fulfilled the demand, the damage caused has not been compensated, which served as the basis for the plaintiff to file this claim in court,” reports the press service of the arbitration.

The claim was submitted to the court on September 8, and it was accepted for proceedings.
