S. Korea: Court suspends sentence against union leaders for unlawful occupation of building following sit-in protest

"Union officials who occupied HiteJinro for 25 Days given suspended sentences in first trial," 2 June 2024

...on June 2, 2024, Judge Kim Ji-young of the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 25 sentenced Kim Kyung-sun, then head of the Daejeon Regional Headquarters of the Korean Public Service and Transport workers' Union under the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, and Park Su-dong, head of the HiteJinro branch union, among others, to one year in prison with a two-year suspension. They were charged with residential trespassing and obstruction of business under the Punishment of Violence Act.

The union officials were accused of unlawfully occupation of the lobby and rooftop of the HiteJinro building ... for 25 days from August 16 to September 9, 2022. They staged a sit-in, demanding higher transportation fees and the reinstatement of dismissed workers, mobilizing around 40 union members to blockade the building and occupy the headquarters.
