Sandy Hook lawsuit against gunmaker Remington Arms will go to trial in 2021
Families of the Sandy Hook school shooting victims will soon have their day in court — as the lawsuit they filed against the maker of the assault-style rifle used in the massacre is set to go to trial next year.
The trial — brought by one survivor and the relatives of nine victims against Remington Arms Co. for its marketing of AR-15-style weapon used by the gunman — is set for September 2021.
“After nearly five years of legal maneuvering by Remington, we will finally discover what went on behind closed doors that led to the company’s reckless marketing of the Bushmaster AR-15,” Josh Koskoff, a lawyer for the victims, said in a statement. “The families’ faith in the legal system has never wavered and they look forward to presenting their case to a Connecticut jury.”
The suit, filed in 2014, alleges Remington Arms never should have sold a weapon as dangerous as the Bushmaster AR-15-style rifle to the public.
