Bhagabat Narsingh Pradhan is a Nepali conservation activist who leads the campaign to restore the historical pond that has allegedly been grabbed by land mafia to build the business complex housing the Marriott franchisee Chhaya Devi Center, a multi-faceted mega complex housing hotels, outlets, theatres, casino, food courts. Mr Pradhan was reportedly threatened by three trade union and workers' leaders employed at the business complex, who went to his residency and presented him a letter with a three-day ultimatum, asking him to refrain from heritage preservation campaigns. He also reports receiving death threats by phone. After the threats, Bhagabat, who is involved in several legal battles with the Chhaya Complex over the disputed land, filed complaints with the police, the district administration and the National Human Rights Commission.
