Myanmar: Garment workers allegedly forced to work unpaid overnight shifts; incl. co. response
In September 2022, it was reported that workers at Sheng Da Ming Apparel factory were forced to work overtime night shifts without overtime pay. Workers reported that some workers had fainted due to working until dawn, and that the factory had not arranged ferries to transport workers home after their night shifts.
It was also reported that on 16 September 2022, up to 17 junior workers at the factory were dismissed without compensation, because they had told the factory they could not work unpaid overtime shifts.
In October 2022, Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Inditex to respond. The full response is included below.
