A.P. Moller Maersk response to the fatality at Hyundai Heavy Industries’ yard in Ulsan, South Korea

To: Business & Human Rights Resource Centre

A.P. Moller - Maersk is deeply saddened by the fatality at our supplier Hyundai Heavy Industries’ yard in

Ulsan, South Korea.

The safety of everyone involved in the construction of our vessels is of utmost importance to us. Maersk

requires that all our suppliers provide a safe, healthy and secure workplace to all employees at all times,

regardless of their form of employment. This is a foundational expectation in all our business

relationships, and outlined in our Supplier Code of Conduct and contractual agreements with our

suppliers.

In line with our Supplier Code of Conduct, we were informed by Hyundai of the fatality of a

subcontracted employee working on the construction of one of our vessels on 26th October 2024.

We are closely monitoring the investigations conducted by the supplier and the relevant authorities,

which are still ongoing. Maersk will work closely with Hyundai Heavy Industries to follow up on actions

and offer support as needed. This will include, but might not be limited to, ensuring that the suppliers’

health and safety controls and management systems are adequately implemented and monitored, and

all applicable laws and regulations are complied with.
