"Worker dies during exploration activities at Woodie Woodie mine in Pilbara", 21 January 2015

A man has died during exploration activities at the Woodie Woodie mine in Western Australia's Pilbara region.

The incident happened on Tuesday afternoon south of the main mine site, which is about 400 kilometres south-east of Port Hedland.

The mine is owned by Consolidated Minerals.

In a statement, the company said the relevant authorities, including police and the Department of Mines and Petroleum (DMP), had been contacted and there would be a full investigation into the incident...

The DMP also issued a statement, saying the incident occurred on a mining exploration lease that is part of the Woodie Woodie mine.

"The accident involved a fitter who was working a dozer being used to clear land for exploration drilling," the statement said.

It said two DMP inspectors were sent to the site immediately and two more inspectors would be travelling there today to investigate...
