Bahrain: Report says migrant workers & other vulnerable groups particularly vulnerable to climate crises, incl. extreme heat

A report by Middle East Institute released in May 2024, titled “Building a More Resilient Bahrain: An Integrated Approach to Climate Change, Socioeconomic, and Governance Challenges”, explores the growing impact of the climate crises on Bahrain. Impacts include extreme heat, drought, dust storms, rising sea levels and warming oceans. The report highlights specific groups are more vulnerable to these impacts, including migrant workers who are exposed to extreme heat.

The report argues the country’s climate vulnerability intersects with broader “societal and governance issues”.

On extreme heat, the report says migrant workers are particularly vulnerable as many work outdoors, including in construction, maintenance and public works.
