"Garment workers protest at two factories over new wage structure", 10 January 2024

Today... workers protested in two garments named Export Village Limited and Bravo Manufacture Limited owned by Mternet Group...

It is to be noted that the minimum wage board formed on April 9 last year, according to the demands of the representatives of the workers and owners...The new wages were supposed to be effective from December 1 last...[but] the owners have not paid their salaries as per the new structure even though they were due to receive their salaries in the new structure this January. The owners have not even paid their salaries this month.

The workers said that thousands of workers of the two factories attended work on Wednesday morning and demanded to be paid the salary for the month of December. But the factory authorities refused to pay according to the new structure. Enraged by this, the workers started protesting by blocking the road in front of the main gate of the two factories...

...if the fair demands of the workers are not accepted, they announced to continue the protest tomorrow...
