Bangladesh: Workers' deaths & injuries in the cement factory collapse reaffirms safety gaps in factories
A cement factory collapsed in the port city of Mongla, about 188 miles southwest of the capital, Dhaka. Seven people were reported dead , 40 inured and many missing after a roof under construction at an army-run factory collapsed. The cement factory compound is army-owned but the construction work was being carried out by a Chinese-owned firm. About 150 workers were on duty when the roof collapsed. The collapse has once again drawn attention to sub-standard safety conditions at factories in the country highlighted in a string of high-profile industrial accidents in recent years - more than 1,100 garment workers died when a factory complex collapsed outside Dhaka in April, 2013.
