Brazil: Indigenous communities in Pará say they were not consulted by the government about carbon credit contracts with multinationals

Agência Brasil - EBC

A public letter signed by 38 indigenous and community organisations in Pará denounced that communities allegedly were not consulted by the government before an agreement was signed with multinational companies to sell carbon offset credits to support the conservation of the Amazon rainforest in the state.

The two main supporters of the agreement are said to be Amazon and the Walmart Foundation, which have been invited to respond to the allegations. The Walmart Foundation did not respond. Amazon's response is available.
