Road Construction Workers Stage Protests Across Bulgaria

Road construction workers backed by the Bulgarian Construction Chamber began national protest actions on Wednesday. In Sofia, the protest in front of the National Assembly started in the morning and lasted the entire day. Across the country, road sections were blocked for an hour in the morning, including a road junction in Stara Zagora, southern Bulgaria, and another one on the Hemus Motorway in northeastern Bulgaria. Protests are planned also on July 28 and 29.

The President of Bulgarian Branch Chamber Roads, Stefan Chaikov, told reporters that the road construction companies are owed some BGN 720 million for work already done and unless a decision is taken on the matter, road maintenance work will stop as of October 1...
