Chile: Lawyers file complaint for possible irregularities in the agreement signed between the Biobío government and the Israeli water company Mekorot

Pedro França/Agência Senado

Chilean lawyers filled a complaint which alleges that the consulting agreement between the Israeli water company Mekorot and the Government of Biobío region “lacks the transparency in the contracting process, adequate guarantees of compliance and presents unjustified clauses that limit the company’s responsibility, as well as it has problems related to the contracting laws”.

The lawyers also highlighted that “Mekorot has also has been denounced internationally for its participation in activities in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, including the illegal restriction of access to water in Palestine, violating WHO recommendations and operating the illegal Israeli settlements”. In this sense, they also demanded an investigation into this issue.

We invited Mekorot to comment on the allegations, but the company did not respond.
