Designer Parfum's response re. child labour in the Egypt jasmine industry
[...]
Designer Parfums does not directly source raw materials for our fragrances, however, we continue to assess and improve our actions to ensure that our components are sourced responsibly...
Following release of the documentary, we have been in close contact with all of our fragrance oil suppliers to better understand their practices on sourcing of raw materials, and in particular, Egyptian jasmine. We have gained deep awareness of the complex situation in the region, but more importantly, of measures being implemented in respect of the current harvesting season, and are committed to actively monitor progress. In particular, we have enquired and discussed with our suppliers their actions around child labour and minimum wage during the current harvesting season, as part of our deeper understanding of their sourcing practices.
At the same time, Designer Parfums is holding conversations with the Association leading the efforts of the industry coalition to improve the conditions for the current jasmine harvesting season (and thereafter), and its implications for child labour and minimum wage.
We will strive to apply the knowledge gained through this specific case to ensure our suppliers source responsibly, especially across areas of the world experiencing complex socio economic conditions.
